DAY 7: Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Back at the Comet Tavern, Joel David Moore has a long day spent primarily on Grant’s speech recruiting volunteers to improve the city of Seattle despite the hardship of 9-11.

I’m extras wrangling again today, which is lucky since the extras holding area has moved to the air-conditioned Vitamin Water Social Club, across the street from the oft-crowded production office. A promotional experiment, two of these exist in the Seattle area and are rented out for various events, from yoga classes to concerts.

Designed by a University of Washington student, it has an eclectic blend of casual beanbag chairs, a coffee table, and a classy nightclub bar upstairs. The extras spend a lot of time getting their pictures taken in the photo booth and watching them pop up on a screen that hangs on the wall. I get a microphone to shepherd my flock. I just wish lyrics could pop up on the screen so we could all sing karaoke. Check it out: http://vscseattle.posterous.com/

Emily Bergl, playing Comet waitress Teresa, has arrived on set. The extras love her, but they’ve never met her. Why? She headed up an effort by the actors to relieve everyone on set from the heat by having a Molly Moon’s truck pull up outside the production office. Unparalleled explosion-in-your-mouth flavors like honey lavender and salted caramel lead to bliss across the long hours. I suddenly become an assistant director when asked to funnel extras in the background of a shot across the sidewalk outside the Comet window. Tomorrow I’m getting inside on the set.
