Getting to Know You
One of my favorite things about independent film is when a famous actor stars in the right kind of indie film it can give them instant street cred because the audience gets to see actors in roles you wouldn’t expect, the most extreme example I can think of is Charlize Theron in Monster.
Our movie, Grassroots, is just one of those types of independent films. There aren’t any serial killer prostitutes in the movie but there IS great material for the actors in the film to show their range. GRASSROOTS stars some well known faces in comedy who definitely don’t lack street any cred: JASON BIGGS, CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER, TOM ARNOLD and CHRISTOPHER MCDONALD. Go to our facebook page to watch videos and hear what veteran comedians Tom Arnold and Christopher McDonald have to say about their experience on the movie on our FACEBOOK page. Jason Biggs and Cedric the Entertainer both explore dramatic roles in GRASSROOTS and if you are a fan of either of them, you should really see the film, because they both outdid themselves with their performances. I met both Jason Biggs and Cedric the Entertainer during pre-production and they are super cool in real life, just as funny as you would hope as a fan.
One of my favorite things about living and working in Hollywood is randomly seeing celebrities around town. Sometimes, when you see them in real life they are exactly what you expect them to be for example (in my humble opinion) Sarah Silverman, Joan Rivers and most recently (as in last night) Mark Salling (Puck from Glee). I had to update my status on Facebook because Puck was totally “a hot bad boy” in real life and all the Gleeks that are my Facebook friends would kill me if I didn’t tell them.
GRASSROOTS’ FACEBOOK is getting to know their fans, so we’re inviting all of you to upload photos of yourselves…I’m planning on submitting this picture I created of Puck and me, because we look like we’re in love 😉 So fans, here’s your homework, comment on my blog about your favorite celebrity encounter, let us get to know you and upload a photo of yourself and MAKE YOUR OWN INFOMERCIAL for our contest!!!
This is crazy true. I had the chance to meet Andy Samberg once. One of the coolest dudes ever, real down to earth which is what you hope for from a comedian.
Favorite celebrity encounter: A few years ago, I got a call to work on a music video and upon getting the call sheet I realized the video was for one of my favorite bands at the time, The Spill Canvas! Though I was incredibly excited I did my best to remain calm and professional. While working on set, I ended up getting into a conversation with one of the band members and as it turns out we went to the exact same pre-school and from what we can figure we went to this pre-school at the exact same time. Since this video, I’ve had many other instances that make me realize that it really is a small world after all.
