Cedric “The Entertainer” stars as Richard McIver, Grant Cogswell’s seemingly unbeatable political opponent, in GRASSROOTS. Best known for crowd-pleasing roles in such hits as BARBERSHOP, BE COOL with John Travolta, INTOLERABLE CRUELTY with George Clooney, and the Spike Lee documentary THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY, the astonishingly versatile performer has also lent his inimitable vocal talents to a number of animated blockbusters (MADAGASCAR, CHARLOTTE’S WEB, ICE AGE).
Cedric’s first-ever HBO Comedy Special was a smash hit in 2006; in 2008, he made his Broadway debut in the revival of David Mamet’s “American Buffalo,” giving “a quiet and nuanced performance” that was singled out for critical praise. Additional screen credits include CADILLAC RECORDS with Adrien Brody and Beyonce Knowles, STREET KINGS opposite Keanu Reeves, LEMONY SNICKET with Jim Carrey, and many more.
Cedric co-stars opposite Julia Roberts in the upcoming Tom Hanks comedy “LARRY CROWNE” and is developing features for his own production company, A Bird And A Bear Entertainment. He also created “The Cedric the Entertainer Foundation” which provides scholarships and outreach programs to inner-city youth and their families in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
